>Maastricht
Maastricht is a beautiful city of about 120,000 inhabitants. It claims to be the oldest city in the Netherlands (the other contender is Nijmegen). The foundations of its oldest bridge are more than 2,000 years old! It is a great city for walking around in its pedestrian central shopping area, visiting its many outdoor cafes, bars and restaurants and enjoying its museums and general atmosphere. The name of the city dates back to Roman times: Mosa Trajectum, or bridge across the river Maas, which is the river splitting the city in two.
The centre is like a large open-air museum: its street plan dates back to the Middle Ages and many buildings are at least 200 years old. Visit the Vrijthof, with its two churches side by side, the Onze Lieve Vrouwenplein, with its mediaeval basilisk / castle and the Markt, with its beautiful city hall.
Zuyd University has concentrated its English-spoken courses in Maastricht. There will always be non-Dutch students around you. Communication & Multimedia Design is housed in the same facility as the School of International Communication and the School of Teacher Training. Other Zuyd Schools in Maastricht, in different buildings, are the Arts Academy, the Drama Academy, the Music Academy and the Academy for Midwifery.
